How Much Do Security Screens Cost?

Security Screens pricing varies significantly between suppliers depending on the mesh type, frame system, the complexity of the install and what market you’re in. This guide will provide a realistic picture of what to expect in 2026 and what drives the price differences.

How much does a security screen door cost?

For a triple locked, standard hinged or sliding security screen door (approximately 860mm x 2100mm), custom made and professionally installed, you can expect to pay between $1300 and $1500 in 2026. 

For budget conscious installations, CommandeX also offers BasiX, a 316 marine grade stainless steel safety screen available at a lower price point. (Note: BasiX is classified as a safety screen and meets AS5039-2023 when fitted with a triple lock system. Contact your local dealer for BasiX pricing).

How much do window security screens cost?

Window security screens are generally lower in cost than door installations. As a guide, professionally installed window security screens typically start from approximately $480 to $700 per window depending on size, mesh type and opening configuration.  

How much do retractable fly screens cost?

Retractable fly screens are priced per square metre due to the variation in opening sizes. Professionally installed systems generally start from around $470 per square metre depending on system type and configuration.

A few variables can increase the base price:

A number of options can add to the base installation cost: 

• Selecting a non-standard colour
• Selecting a wood effect aluminium door frame
• New door tracks for a sliding door (if required)
• A build out frame if your existing door frame is old or damaged (note: security door will not meet Australian Standards 5039-2023 if attached to a door frame that is not structurally sound)
• Scaffolding for a high installation
• More than one installer if required
• SaltWaterSeries coastal grade mesh, upcharge on standard SecureView pricing for properties within 500 metres of the coastline.

What is the difference between a custom made security screen and an off the shelf product?

Custom made security screens are manufactured to exact measurements for your specific door or window opening. Every CommandeX security screen is custom made by a licensed dealer to ensure a perfect and compliant installation to AS5039.2:2024.

Off the shelf products are available online and through hardware stores but are not manufactured to your exact measurements. A poorly fitted security screen, regardless of mesh quality will not perform and be compliant with Australian Standards. Correct installation by a licensed installer is just as important as the product itself.

Why do security screen prices vary so much between suppliers?

Security screen pricing depends on the mesh grade, frame system, locking mechanism and installation costs. A cheaper screen may use lower grade mesh, a less secure fixing system or may not meet AS5039-2023. Always confirm the product is independently tested and the installer is licensed. 

Is a cheaper security screen worth it?

Not always, A security screen that does not meet AS5039-2023 is classified as a safety screen or barrier door, not a security screen. It will not provide the same level of forced entry resistance. The difference in price between an entry level and premium security screen is often small relative to the long-term value of correctly specified and installed product. 

Does the mesh type affect the price?

Yes. Perforated aluminium Xceed screens are the most affordable option. SecureView Eclipx 316 marine grade stainless steel is mid range. SaltWaterSeries with additional coastal powder coating is the premium option. All three meet AS5039-2023 when fitted with a triple lock system.
