Choosing the right security screen mesh starts with understanding two mesh types: woven stainless steel and perforated aluminium. Woven stainless steel is made from individual strands woven together, almost like a checkerboard. Perforated aluminium is a single sheet with holes punched through it. Each mesh type has its own strengths, and the right option depends on your home’s environment, budget and priorities. Below, we break down each CommandeX mesh option so you can find the right fit.

SaltWaterSeries (316 Stainless Steel Woven Mesh with Extra Protective Coating) is the newest addition to the CommandeX product range. Most security screens on the market aren’t suitable for homes in extreme environments, so screens installed in those areas can corrode over time. We designed SaltWaterSeries to fill this gap, delivering top-of-the-line security and corrosion resistance.
Galvanic corrosion is the most common type of corrosion seen on screens in coastal areas. It occurs when two dissimilar metals come into contact and are then exposed to the elements. Some other screens on the market, for example, use stainless steel mesh (metal type #1) screwed into aluminium framing (metal type #2), with screws bonding the two metals together. These screens start corroding as soon as the dissimilar metals meet industrial dust, red dust or salt spray. Our patented keyway fixing system counteracts this by keeping a clear space between the mesh and the aluminium frame, reducing the risk of galvanic corrosion.
SaltWaterSeries mesh is made from premium 316 marine grade stainless steel and powder-coated to prevent corrosion. This makes it perfect for homes within 500m of the coastline, up to 2km on an escarpment where prevailing wind carries salt air, or in iron-rich, red dust-prone or heavy industrial areas.

SecureView is our core security screen product, made from premium 316 marine grade stainless steel and installed in homes across Australia for years. Its 0.8mm woven stainless steel mesh offers excellent airflow into the home. Some alternative security screens use a larger diameter mesh, which can sound appealing but adds extra weight. Most sliding door suites can’t handle this additional weight, and tracks can bow or sag over time as a result.
We build every component of SecureView to exceed the requirements of Australian Standard AS 5039-2023, making it a far more compatible security product for most existing door and window suites, without needing additions or structural fortification. You don’t compromise on security or strength with a SecureView screen.
SecureView suits any Australian home outside the extreme environments covered by SaltWaterSeries. This includes homes in bushfire-prone areas, homes needing security protection, or homeowners who simply want a screen that looks good.
Features

Xceed security screens use corrosion-resistant perforated structural grade aluminium panels, 1.6mm thick, giving the screen real strength. Compliance with Australian Standards (AS 5039-2023) backs that strength up.
Xceed doors and windows suit people wanting extra privacy and a budget-friendly security option. Aluminium costs less than woven stainless steel alternatives while still offering excellent corrosion resistance for coastal homes. Xceed pairs like-materials, aluminium mesh with an aluminium frame, together with our patented keyway fixing system, to greatly reduce the risk of galvanic corrosion.
Features

BasiX Safety Screens use a thinner woven 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh than our security screen range, while still using high-quality materials and components. We designed BasiX as an affordable alternative to security screens, providing excellent corrosion resistance, visibility and style without the higher price tag. Its smaller mesh aperture helps keep out insects and bugs, an essential feature for Australian conditions.
BasiX suits homeowners who want the appearance and quality of a security screen where full AS5039-2023 security certification isn’t required. This includes homes in gated communities, low-crime areas, or second-storey windows where fall prevention matters more than forced entry resistance.

Woven stainless steel mesh is made from individual strands woven together, similar to a checkerboard pattern. It offers excellent airflow, visibility and insect protection, with a 42.71% open area on SecureView EclipX. Perforated aluminium, like Xceed, is a single sheet with holes punched through it. It offers more privacy and a different aesthetic, but less airflow than woven stainless steel. Both types must meet Australian Standards AS5039-2023 to be classified as security screens.
BasiX is a safety screen, not a security screen. It hasn’t been independently tested to AS5039-2023 and doesn’t meet the knife shear, pull, anti-jemmy, impact and probe testing requirements of that standard. BasiX is an excellent cost-effective option for insect protection, pet resistance and fall prevention, but shouldn’t be specified where AS5039-2023 security screen compliance is required.
SecureView EclipX woven stainless steel mesh offers the best combination of airflow and visibility, with a 42.71% open area and 1.575mm aperture. Its black powder-coated mesh is virtually invisible from inside the home. Our patented fixing system eliminates the need for midrails on most standard openings, giving an unobstructed view and maximum airflow, with no horizontal bar across the middle of the screen like some competitors have.
